Ocean City is a place where many people own beach homes and also where many tourists visit for a nice beach vacation. Part of owning a beach home or vacationing near the beach means lots of time will be spent in the sun.

It’s always a great feeling to return from a beach vacation and have everyone comment on how dark of tan was achieved. However, one of the biggest safety concerns for Ocean City visitors should be the prevention of sunburns.

Following are some tips on how to avoid overexposure to the sun:

Try to limit the number of hours in the direct sun between ten in the morning and three in the afternoon. These are the hours of the day when the sun is the strongest.

Sunscreen with a “Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least “15” should be applied to the entire body before going outside in the sun.

Sunscreen should be reapplied on a regular basis throughout the day. Especially after swimming in the ocean or in a pool, a new layer of sunscreen should be applied – even if it’s cloudy outside.

Wearing a hat is a good idea… it will help prevent getting a sunburn on the face and on the scalp.
