Lake Tahoe is a very family-friendly destination, as most of the attractions are based on outdoor activities. Many of the ski resorts offer family packages, which sometimes come with supervised children’s activity day or half-day camps so that parents can spend time alone as well. Common activities offered by resorts specifically for children include miniature golf, arts and crafts, and pool swimming.

Otherwise, most of the adventures that Tahoe has to offer can be done by children as well as adults. Hiking, sailing, biking and fishing are popular summer activities that people of any age can do, while in the winter ice skating, skiing and sledding can be fun for the whole family as well. Children may also enjoy a hot air balloon ride over the lake; a few companies that offer such aerial tours are Balloons Over Lake Tahoe (tel: (530) 544-7008), Lake Tahoe Balloons (tel: (530) 544-1221) and Mountain High Balloons and Paragliding (tel: (530) 587-6922). Families can also explore the lake by renting a motorboat or sailboat. A few conveniently located companies are Action Watersports of Tahoe (3411 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe), Lakeside Marina (intersection of Park and Lakeshore, South Lake Tahoe) and Tahoe City Marina (700 North Lake Blvd, Tahoe City).

There are also plenty of family-friendly restaurants in the region, as well as fast food joints like Pizza Hut, McDonald’s and Subway.
