The clean air and cool, seasonal weather makes Duluth an excellent Summer familiy getaway. Larger families may particularly benefit from renting a beachside cottage. Watch the waves crash from a private shoreline or hike in the early morning prior to breakfast. No matter where a family decides to stay, a wealth of entertainment, nautical and outdoors activities are within an immediate grasp of the town center every day.

The Lakewalk provides an introduction to vacation time on Lake Superior. The three mile skywalk begins near the Aerial bridge and ends on the Northeast side of town. The Lake Superior Maritime Museum and Visitor's Center are en route to the hilly descent into the lakeshore.

Climb one of the windy staircases for access to shops and restaurants throughout the walk. Travelers with pets are invited to bring along Fido, Fifi, or Garfield for this portion of the trip.

Families with children or adults with inner children will delight in Carnival Thrillz. Carnival Thrillz is an indoors family amusement and entertainment complex. It is 50,000 square feet of attractions, cotton candy, pizza and games. Begin with a game of laser tag and end with a night of miniature golf.

Vacations that include family members who like animals should visit the Lake Superior Zoo. The fully accredited zoo is smaller than those in major metropolitan areas. This allows visitors the chance to participate in several unique programs. "Zookeeper for a Day" offers people of all ages to perform basic zookeeper duties for the duration of their visit.
