Many people come to Bloomington specifically for the shopping; after all, the cityi s home to the largest shopping center in the country. The Mall of America has 520 stores of all kinds. There are department store anchors like Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Sears and Nordstrom, brand-name outlets such as Ann Taylor, Banana Republic and Victoria’s Secret, children’s shops like BabyGap, Gymboree and the Lego Store. There are also smaller gift and specialty boutiques that sell sunglasses, music boxes, pottery and anything else you can imagine.
The Mall of America is more than just a place to shop. There are more than 60 restaurants and a 14-screen movie theater here. The Underwater Adventures Aquarium, besides offering the usual tanks of aquatic life, has a pool where visitors can touch sharks and sea turtles. The Dinosaur Walk has dozens of fossil exhibits and a learning center. The Park at the Mall of America, a large indoor amusement park, spans over 7 acres and has more than 30 carnival rides. There is even an indoor stock car racetrack here, the NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway.If all that still does not satisfy your shopping urges, or if you simply want a less overwhelming selection of stores, there are a few other areaswith high concentrations of boutiques. The Southtown Shopping Center, at the intersection of I-494 and Penn Avenue, offers a nice array of shops, and there are a few shopping districts in downtown Minneapolis like the Nicollet Mall.
