The best place for family fun in Bloomington is the Mall of America, which has a number of family-friendly attractions. A.C.E.S. offers a number of AeroDomes that are duplicates of those used to train military pilots. Tickets can be purchased for sessions of half-hour or one-hour blocks from www.flyaces.com. Though the company recommends children be above 10, kids as young as 6 with previous flight simulation experience have taken a ride inside.
The NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway has an excellent stock car to simulate the racetrack experience of driving a 750-horsepower machine at 195 miles an hour. Details like centrifugal motion, jarring movements and steering have all been taken into account. Racers must be over 52 inches (to reach the pedals and see over the dashboard), but passengers only have to be above 40 pounds and 4 years of age.
The Park at MOA, another Bloomington attraction, is the country’s largest indoor amusement park. Spread over 7 acres, this place has more than 30 rides, including roller coasters, a Ferris wheel and bumper cars. The Park is usually open from around 10am to 10pm, with shorter hours on Sundays. The Mall is also home to one of the largest LEGO displays anywhere, with a four-story playground and models of dinosaurs, astronauts, and a clock tower, as well as an underwater aquarium with over 250 sharks.
