Located right in the heart of the Bluegrass region, affectionately referred to as "Bluegrass Country." At the Raven Run Nature Sanctuary, hiking trails wind their way through forests, meadows and gentle creeks, taking you past historic landmarks. There are even a night time guided walking tours for stargazing. Festival goers and music lovers can enjoy Lexington's Festival of the Bluegrass , Kentucky's oldest bluegrass music festival. Downtown Lexington is a bustling center, undergoing a building and construction revival, but retaining much of its old world patrician charm and quaintness. The Lexington Centre & Rupp Arena stands out as the centerpiece of downtown Lexington activity, with a convention centre and shopping facilities.
Beautiful Kentucky Horse Park is showcase to the area's rich history with horses, featuring world-class equestrian facilities, horse shows, museums, and exhibits. Be sure to tour the American Saddle Horse Museum, dedicated to the Kentucky's native breed: the American Saddlebred. Be sure not to miss the daily parade of breeds exhibit in the covered arena featuring demonstrations and representations of horse breeds from around the world. In 2010, Lexington and Kentucky Horse Park will play host to the World Equestrian Games .
Don't forget to visit historic Keeneland Race Track with it's beautiful landscaped grounds, stately old oaks, dark grandstands and towers of granite. Historic sites are plentiful here, such as the Waveland Museum and State Historic Site, famed Kentucky statesman Henry Clay's Ashland Estate, and of course the childhood home of Mary Todd Lincoln: the Mary Todd Lincoln House .
