The Midwest is known for its festivals of good ol' fashioned fun, delicious food, and live music. Peoria is no different and has several great annual festivals that you may wish to plan your vacation around.
The city's largest event pulls in a couple hundred thousand people and for good reason. The Heart of Illinois Fair is Peoria's biggest event and is a part of the fourth of July Independence celebration. A large display of fireworks on the riverfront pleases all ages. There are also music concerts, competitions, and lots of great food.
Another great time to visit is during the Oktoberfest. The German cultural festival takes place annually in September and features excellent food and beer. German style music concerts are a part of the fun and you can even expect to see men in lederhosen.
Thanksgiving Day in Peoria boasts the is the oldest Santa Claus parade in the U.S. Families travel from around the region to enjoy the festive parade and chance to see the jolly old man.
More culture comes into play during the summer with Erin Feis at the Riverfront Festival Park. Taking place in August there are series of traditional Irish music and dance, cultural exhibits and great food.
