Located on the Gulf Coast of Florida, just 30 miles north of the Tampa area, New Port Richey is a thriving community with a historic downtown business district and scenic riverfront. The city is just 4.6 square miles, bordering the Gulf of Mexico to the west, with the Pithlachascotee River running through the heart of downtown. The city has great beaches, shopping, restaurants and culture with a quaint, small-town feel.
Founded in 1924, the city was the home of stars of the silver screen in the 20s, including Gloria Swanson, Charlie Chaplin and, later, Shirley Temple. Guided walking tours are available throughout the historic downtown and boat tours are offered along the Cotee River, including glimpses of former stars' homes.
The city is home to many natural areas and parks, including a skate park, the riverfront Sims Park, the James E. Grey Preserve and a recently completed, multi-million-dollar Aquatic Center. The city has been a nationally recognized Tree City for nearly 20 years.
New Port Richey's downtown is the site of many unique festivals throughout the year, including the Chasco Fiesta, Cotee River Seafood Festival and the Fourth of July event, Main Street Blast.
