Authors Susan Gillis and Dan Hobby offer a look that covers the 160 year history of Fort Lauderdale, from the Second Seminole War to the days of spring break, while also providing a glimpse back some 5,000 years before the first European settlers arrived. Fort Lauderdale, FL (Images of America) is available in paperback from Arcadia Publishing and is a must read for anyone looking to learn more about the city’s unique and at times colorful history.

Gillis, who is also a historian and former curator of the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society, also offers her insight into the history of the city with Fort Lauderdale: The Venice of America (Arcadia Publishing). The book is complemented by vintage photos from the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society and the Broward County Historical Commission, and she provides more picturesque images of the city in Fort Lauderdale: In Vintage Postcards (Arcadia Publishing).
