Bike ride between the bay and the ocean.

For a great, full day bike trip from Rehoboth Beach towards Ocean City, you can ride down Coastal Highway (Route 1). It is very scenic, flat, paved and passes though many small beach towns like Dewey Beach, Fenwick Island and Bethany Beach. The route passes small, isolated beaches, on both the ocean and bay sides. It is out and back, about 27 miles each way. If you start in downtown Rehoboth Beach, you can ride through the quaint town with its beautiful Silver Lake. Once you reach Coastal Highway, the shoulder is wide enough for two bikes next to each other. The traffic on the highway can be light, especially in the early mornings. Most of the route passes by Delaware Seashore and Fenwick Island State parks. Bring your swimsuit and stop along the way to rest, sunbathe and swim at any of the small sand beaches, where you might be all alone.  On moderately windy days, keep a look out for windsurfers and kite surfers, especially on the bay side.  Bring water and snacks as there are very few concessions.

ROUTE:  From downtown Rehoboth Beach, take First Street south.  It becomes King Charles Ave. and crosses Silver Lake (it is recommended to walk your bike across this bridge); after about two miles, it merges with Coastal Highway, head south (left) and you're on your way!
