Being a tourist and shopping in Crested Butte can be a lot of fun. During the winter, shopping can be a nice break from skiing and other outdoor, snow-related activities. During the summer, shopping is one of the most popular activities for tourists.

Elk Avenue, the main street that runs through the town of Crested Butte, is lined with restaurants and many stores that sell unique and high-quality items. There are stores that sell items perfect for souvenirs or gifts for family members or friends back home, art galleries, stores that sell all types of clothing including ski suits, coats, gloves, and scarves, and there are several stores that sell jewelry.

Elk Avenue contains most of the local shops and is set up so that in the summer or winter, tourists can mix a day of shopping with a great meal at one of the local restaurants. Or, people can shop a little bit, have an ice cream cone, and then shop some more.

Some of the items for sale in Crested Butte's stores may seem a bit pricey, but that is to be expected in a mountain town that is tucked away from any large city. Transporting goods through the Rocky Mountains in order to be sold in the town's stores is expensive, and the prices for items usually reflect this. Also, Crested Butte is a tourist area, so small souvenirs tend to be a little bit over priced… but still unique, desirable, and worth the cost!
