Walking is the best means of transporting yourself around Yountville, for several reasons. The town is only a mile long, so it is really not worth ever moving the car from your hotel parking lot. Another reason not to drive is that you will want to be able to taste all the wine that is offered to you, without having to worry about being sober enough to make the drive back. You’ll need to explore the rows of grapevines on foot, anyway. Basically, while driving is the best way of getting to and from the Valley in the first place, cars are unnecessary as soon as you arrive in Yountville.
However, some of the winery tours start outside of Yountville, even though the vineyards themselves are situated right on the edge of town. This is why buses, shuttles and other forms of public transportation are so frequently used for winery tours. The
Napa Valley Wine Train
, for instance, transports visitors between all of the wineries and towns in the Valley. The active and adventurous may also want to try taking a bicycle tour.
Napa Valley Bike Tours
has their main offices in Yountville, and offers a variety of popular tour packages that usually include visits to a winery – with samples at the end!
