Summer 2008 Update:

Back on the Beach cafe is closed for renovation. When it reopens in summer 2009, you will once again to eat with your toes in the sand, and there will be a new take out window. Subtle improvements will only enhance the cafe's much loved charm. For furrther information, please email the City of Santa Monica at beachhouse@smgov.net. The cafe sits adjacent to the new Annenberg Community Beach House.

An inexpensive, casual restaurant in a perfect location. Mexican-style, tables set right on the sand, looking straight out to the Ocean. You watch the joggers, dog-walkers, swimmers, cyclists, eat right in the sun, or inside at the wooden tables. There is no better place to demonstrate beach life to visitors. Tom Hanks eats here, many actors, but also just regular folks. It's completely delightful, but get there early on a sunny Sunday.  You can't book for less than 6 people.
