The Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph is located in downtown San Jose. The first church was built in 1803. Today the present church is the fifth building at the site because previous churches suffered damage from earthquakes and fire. Today the church is listed as a California Historical Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The ground plan of the church uses the Greek cross. There is a round altar under the dome, which has a Bavarian glass skylight and stained glass murals. The church has plenty of art, including the Stations of the Cross, sculpture, paintings and stained glass windows.
