The only method of public transportation regularly used by visitors to the Palm Springs area is the public bus system. The bus is operated by SunLine Transit Agency ( http://www.sunline.org/home/index.asp) which was first established in 1977 and has been growing steadily ever since. Currently, the bus system prides itself on being on the cutting edge of using alternative fuels in public transportation, in a system they are calling “New SunLine”.
The public bus is an inexpensive method by which tourists can get around the Palm Springs area. Adult fares are only $1.00, fares for children are only $0.85 and fares for seniors are only $0.50. Transfers between busses are only a quarter each for persons of all ages and are able to be used twice within any two hour period. Ten-ride passes (both with and without transfer options) are available at a discounted rate year round. Additionally, visitors who will be staying in Palm Springs for an extended period during the summer months might want to look in to the Go Pass for children between the ages of five and seventeen who are traveling with them.
Travelers who are interested in taking the bus to popular tourist attractions will be happy to know that the website provides easily accessible information about which bus lines travel to which locations. That information is online at http://www.sunline.org/home/index.asp... . Travelers with additional questions can contact The SunBus Rider Information Center during normal working hours at 1-800-347-8628.
