Waterside, Marina del Rey
This sparkling intimate neighborhood center with meandering sidewalks and bubbling fountains is located within walking distance of Fisherman’s Village, offering restaurants, cafes, specialty shops and one of a kind boutiques. Favorites include Beyond Scents, Papillon and Charla's Place, and Universal Jewelers for gifts. The center has a strong selection of womens fashions and acessories boutiques, including BCBG Max Azria, Brighton Collectibles, The Area and Irene's Story. West Marine offers boating supplies and gifts. California Pizza Kitchen, Chipolte, Mendocino Farms, Fresh Brothers Pizza, SugarFish (sushi), and The Counter (custom-built burgers), are good for meals and snacks. ATM, post office, pharmacy and market are also here. Admiralty Way at Mindanao Way. Open daily.
This is the largest center in the immediate vicinity of the Marina, and primarily serves as a neighborhood convenience shopping area. There are roughly 70 shops and restaurants, such as Pier1 Imports, Equinox Fitness Center, Gelson's Gourmet Market, Tender Greens, Le Pain Quotidien, Yardhouse Restaurant (opening summer 2013), and AMC Dine-In Movie Theaters. Marina Beach Shopping Center
Shop for essentials and local services here. About a dozen businesses include Noah’s Bagels, liquor store and a favorite of local boaters, Joni’s Coffee Roaster Cafe. Washington Blvd at Via Marina. There are a number of small cafes across the street, and this area is located about 1/2 mile east of Venice Pier. Open daily.
Abbot Kinney Boulevard - Venice
Less than two miles from the Marina, Abbot Kinney Boulevard is home to an eclectic array of galleries, fine arts and crafts, well-known restaurants, funky cafes, antiques/collectibles, gifts, clothing, and artist ateliers. About a mile in length, it’s the perfect place to wile away an afternoon. Check out "First Fridays" of each month when retailers stay open late and offer special festivities. Venice Beach Ocean Front Walk
Year round, especially on weekends, Ocean Front Walk in Venice Beach becomes a virtual outdoor swap meet of affordable souvenirs – everything from T-shirts, sandals and sunhats to sunglasses and kerchiefs for your dogs are available. Store front and side walk vendors share space along craftsmen and other artists who will create your memento while you wait. Make sure to stop at the Muscle Beach Pit where champion bodybuilders work out. (Between Venice Boulevard and Windward Way); Open daily.
Three miles from Marina del Rey, Santa Monica is known for its chic, slightly quirky, avant-garde designs and fashions. There are three popular areas for shopping:
Third Street Promenade runs along three pedestrian-only blocks and is lined with shops, restaurants and movie theaters. Open daily.
Main Street is not to be missed. The stores are smaller, funkier, carrying more one-of-a-kind treasurers. From lace to surf wear, Mexican folk art to Japanese antiquities, designer home furnishing to handmade jewelry and wild hats -- it's all on this one very happening street. Plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes.
Before leaving Santa Monica, go just a bit further north to Montana Avenue featuring 150 interesting more upscale boutiques and inviting restaurants in the middle of a lovely residential community. There are also some excellent restaurants in this area. The most interesting part of the street stretches from 13th to 16th Street.
Westfield Culver City Shopping Mall This large traditional, suburban regional shopping center has 135 stores on three floors, including large stores like Best Buy, Target, Macy’s and J.C. Penny, but also look for higher end boutiques like Coach. A variety of restaurants are on-site including B.J.'s Restaurant and Brewhouse, Lucille's Barbeque, Five Guys Burgers, Creme de Le Crepe, Extreme Pizza as well as an extensive food court. About four miles east of Marina del Rey. Open daily.
