Fresno is home to a number of museums. Fresno's Metropolitan museum, currently open after some renovations. Here are some other Museums in the Fresno area

  • The Fresno Art Museum, the only modern art museum between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
  • The Meux Home Museum, an beautiful 1888 Victorian home, is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 to 3:30 pm for public tours.
  • The Kearney Mansion Museum is another beautiful home from the 1800's. Guided tours are offered Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00.
  • The Legion of Valor Museum shows the human side of many of America's military conflicts and battles through the personal citations, letters and photographs of the real soldiers.

The Shinzen Japanese Garden is an unusual attraction for Fresno's climate but certainly not to be missed.

Likewise, the Forestiere Underground Gardens at 5021 W. Shaw Avenue are a unique find.  They are the life's work of Baldasare Forestiere, who carved out skylights, courtyards, rooms and passageways from his rocky land after discovering it unsuitable for farming.

For the kids in all of us (and the one's with us) there is also the Chaffee Zoo.  Camel rides are available on the weekends and special bird shows run from March to October.
