The climate in Carlsbad is very pleasant. The winters are mild with an average temperature that hovers around 60 degrees (Fahrenheit) and the summers are also nice with an average daily temperature in the low 70s (Fahrenheit). The area sees only a little bit of rain per year, with the average being about 10 inches a year.
With such desirable daily temperatures, Carlsbad is a great place to visit any month of the year. However, there are certain times of the year that Carlsbad visitors can partake in more frequent festivals and/or events.
The month of January usually brings many visitors to Carlsbad because this is the location of the San Diego Marathon.
In March and April, many tourists visit Carlsbad (or at least drive through) to see all of the beautiful flowers that are in bloom here at this time of the year.
The Carlsbad Village Street Faire is held each May and November and draws many visitors. It is known to be the biggest single-day street fair in the entire state… and admission is free! Expect huge crowds, difficult parking, and lots of fun.
In July and August, Carlsbad sponsors live jazz music in the parks so that all residents and visitors and come and enjoy the evening listening to free music. These concerts are held every Friday during these two months, and crowds of people attend each week.
As in all coastal California beach towns, Summer is the busiest time of the year. This is the only time of year parking near the beach is a challenge and at high tide the beaches get narrow enough to make the beach more crowded. Get there early (before 10am) to get good parking and your spot on the beach. The good part is the Village is very lively night and day and it is still much mellower than most California beach towns - esspecially most beach towns in LA, OC and SD!
Fall (Labor Day until mid-November) is the best time of year - the best (most sun, and still dry) weather and less crowds...kids are back in school, hotel rates are lower, and the surf is at it's best with most years allowing surfing in trunks until October. As close as you get to Hawaii on the Mainland without Island Fever.
