Although the Phoenix Art Museum is the best known museum in the Phoenix metro area, the Arizona State University Art Museum is a good alternative. First, the building itself  (designed by Antoine Predock) is gorgeous; fun to explore on the outside, always surprising on the inside. The art exhibits, especially the rotating ones, are exciting and thought-provoking. Its gift shop is chock-full of interesting odditites at Christmas time and inevitably has something fun to look at at all times of the year. It's only a few blocks from the corner of Mill Avenue and University, so in easy walking distance of the fun part of downtown Tempe and lots of fun places for lunch or dinner. Any art lover who was going to the Phoenix metropolitan area should pay a visit.
