Having a car in Sedona is almost a must. There is really no public transportation to speak of, and taxis are not readily available. While many shops and restaurants may be within walking distance of your hotel, depending on where you stay, many of the town’s outdoor sights and activities, such as the numerous hiking trails in
Red Rock Country
, are located beyond walking distance from most hotels and resorts. Parking in town is free but you'll need a Red Rock Pass if you park within the Coconino National Forest, $5 daily or $10 weekly. With only two main roads, Route 89 and Route 179, navigating is easy, even for first-time visitors. Rental cars are available from national companies in Sedona,
Flagstaff Pulliam Airport
, and Sky Harbor International Airport (link
here
). Sky Harbor has modified their rental car area to make it easier to get to the various rental companies. There is one shuttle bus for all rental car companies that departs from outside the baggage area and travels approx. 5-10 minutes to a Rental Car Center. The shuttle lets you off in front, and you walk in and go to whatever counter you have business with. You get your contract, then travel down using an escalator to where all the cars are. You get the keys and go. Very easy. This is the same place you turn in your car and then catch a shuttle back to the airport. One thing, you need to know which teminal your airline uses in order to catch the correct shuttle.
