Marsa Alam, once nothing more than a quaint Red Sea fishing village, and still very quiet, is quickly becoming a popular resort area for those who wish to avoid the large numbers of tourists that crowd the Egyptian coast's other vacation spots. In addition to its beautiful beaches and water sport activities such as scuba diving and snorkeling, Marsa Alam is home to several sites of ancient ruins dating back thousands of years. These ruins include the 6000-year old Temple of Seti and the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics written on the rocks of Wadi Hammamat near the Red Sea.
Non-water sport activities are also available such as desert treks on foot or on camel back, or ATV tours along the region's sand dunes and beaches. Many of the region's hotels also offer entertainment for guests such as belly dancing, live music, or dance shows. For more information on things to do in Marsa Alam visit the town's tourism website.
