Although the vision that most uninitiated travelers have of Juneau is one of an isolated Alaskan village, those who have been there know better.  Juneau is in fact home to a vibrant arts scene with its own symphony orchestra, opera and live theatre performances.  A complete list of events can be found on the website of the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council

The Juneau Symphony Orchestra's main season falls during the autumn and winter months.  Their website offers a full schedule of performances as well as background information on the musicians, conductor, and staff.  Discount tickets are available to passengers of the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry.  See their website for tickets as well as for information on their Youth Symphony.

Juneau's Perseverance Theatre is one of the nation's leading non-profit theatres, drawing approximately 20,000 visitors annually.  It produces both classic and modern plays and musicals, many with an Alaskan perspective.

The Alaska Folk Festival, held in April, is a week-long celebration of folk music, with all performances free to the public.

For the last 20 years Juneau has also hosted its Jazz and Classics music series in the late spring.   Tickets, performance dates, and musician profiles are available on their website.
