Situated on north-west side of Rarotonga - opposite Rarotonga Golf Club the beach has long been a favourite picnic spot for locals and visitors alike.  The popularity of this warm sheltered lagoon area extends to a large shaded picnic area, plenty of parking space around the iron-wood trees, public toilets, beach shower, picnic tables and daily servicing by the local community wardens.  Especially good snorkelling at high tide.  Black Rock itself provides platforms for sun-worshipping and viewing fishlife - several deep holes for swimming immediately at the base of these imposing volcanic features.   Nearby the primary school is a petrol and convenience store for food, snacks and supplies.  Esther Honey the animal welfare and veterinary clinic is opposite the Social Centre, and welcomes visitors.  A new all weather tennis court has recently been installed at the golf club's entrance which enhances the appeal of this all weather playground on the island's sunny side.  Body boarders and surfers are also attracted to the sheltered waters provided by Black Rock.
