In Puntarenas, or within a short drive, there are a wide variety of outdoor activities to enjoy. No matter what your preference you’re sure to find an activity to please you.

Water sports are big here, but many visitors advice against swimming in the waters because, at best, they are murky. Some would say the water is dirty. Certainly you can enjoy the beaches, but if you want to get in, head to a neighboring village for swimmable waters. However, if you want to kayak, surf or enjoy more active pursuits like these, Puntarenas is just fine for this.

Check with your hotel for information about water sports companies that take you out on a boat for various water activities. You can sport fish, dive, or just take a sunset cruise.

Other outdoor activities in Puntarenas include hiking (if hiking in the rainforest, bring a poncho and waterproof shoes – it’s not called a rainforest for nothing), horseback riding and even golf. There are a number of golf resorts springing up throughout this region that provide a gorgeous setting for world-class golf.
