There isn’t really a shortage of activities to do in Tortuguero. Numerous tours of the surrounding nature park will let you discover this unspoiled paradise.

On sunny days, laying on the beach and playing in the surf are popular activities, though strong currents make swimming an at-your-own-risk activity. If soaking in the sun on black sand beaches is too laid back for you, there are plenty of other activities including tours for sport fishing, river kayaking, zip lining and boating. Rainy days provide an opportunity to relax with a massage, find a hammock to read in, or simply unplug and enjoy the sounds of the jungle.

You can also spend the day getting aerial tours of Tortuguero, which operate from the small domestic airports. These can give you a bird’s eye view of this scenic national park, as well as the surrounding Costa Rican countryside, including the Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge to the north.
