Playas del Coco is a Costa Rican beach location which means that the culture of the area has been heavily influenced by the Spanish history of the area but also by the influx of Western tourism prevalent there.
The Spanish culture ( http://www.donquijote.org/culture/spain/) developed throughout the region historically and continues to influence the area to this day. This is seen in such practices as the afternoon siesta which contributes to such habits as stores being closed for a few hours each afternoon and markets being bustling on Sundays. It is also seen in the traditional religious practices of the area which tend to heavily favor Catholic influences. For example, Christmas and Easter are big holidays in the area.
The culture of the area has also been marked by the tourist industry. Resorts and nightlife spots tend to be very Americanized and travelers often say that this region is more like the United States than like more rural areas of Costa Rica . There is also something of a Caribbean flavor to the culture because of the frequency of travels between the areas.
In terms of specific local culture, untouched by the tourist industry, it is a water-based culture where fishing is the predominant industry.
