Fairhope, AL - Wonderful Day trip from Gulf Shores

Fairhope, Alabama is located a short distance from Gulf Shores along HWY 98 (From Gulf Shores, Take HWY 59 to Foley, AL and turn left onto HWY 98).  Fairhope is a beautiful little town filled with quaint little shops (antiques, art, clothing, cooking), lots of interesting restaurants (Panini Pete's--recently featured on the food network--is wonderful) and even a very interesting museum detailing the history of Fairhope.  There is also a pier with a beautiful rose garden and lots of great areas for birding that looks out onto Mobile Bay.  Public restrooms are located next to the museum--an important landmark since none of the local stores allow use of their restrooms.

The trip back to Gulf Shores is made much sweeter with a stop in Foley, AL at Stacey's Rexal Drugs and Old Tyme Soda Fountain (121 W Laurel Ave, Foley, AL; Phone: 251-943-7191).  The Key Lime Milkshake is to die for.  Read the menu before ordering--there are lots of interesting choices and the atmosphere is not to be missed.
