According to the mythology, Austin City Limits is taped
on an Austin
hillside above the city. In reality, the show is recorded in a KLRU-TV
television studio located on the University of Texas campus. The famous skyline set,
based on a photograph of the city taken from south Austin, debuted in 1982 for
Season 7 and has remained the series' backdrop ever
since.
KLRU-TV opens its doors each Friday at 10:30 a.m. for
tours of the famed soundstage. Admission is free and you can bring a camera and have
your picture taken on the stage. The tour schedule varies on holidays, so make sure you call ahead.
KLRU is on the University of Texas campus at the intersection of Dean
Keeton and Guadalupe. The studio is located on the 6th floor of the U.T.
Communications Building B. Check out KLRU's webpage to get more information. (
