There are plenty of sports and outdoor activities available in Amarillo to keep all of its visitors busy.Heading over to the Palo Duro Stables at the nearby canyon can be a great way to spend the day. Here, visitors have many options for riding horses. Experienced riders can rent horses and explore the area by themselves, while beginner riders have an array of lessons available to them. The area also has lots of hiking and camping options, so it is possible to make this a multi-day trip.
Forty miles outside of Amarillo can be found the Lake Meredith National Recreation Area. Lake Meredith is the largest lake in the area, and is a popular recreational destination for many people. There are numerous swimming areas with tables for picnicking, there are plenty of fish in the lake, and boats, as well as houseboats can be rented at the marina. Their season begins at the end of October and lasts until the end of March.
The Wonderland Amusement Park has been providing visitors with jaw-dropping fun and excitement since 1951. It is open between March and September.
