Because of its warm temperatures and lack of major precipitation, Amarillo is a destination that can be visited during any month of the year.  However, there are certain times of the year that are more comfortable than others.

On average, the hottest months of the year are July and August, during which time the daily high temperatures will generally hover in the upper 80’s and lower 90’s.  There are however numerous days during these months when the temperatures will approach the 100-degree mark.  The nighttime temperatures during these months will drop to the mid 60’s.  Although many tourists visit during these summer months, other times of the year offer more comfortable climates.

On average, the coldest months of the year are December and January, during which time the daily high temperatures will reach the lower 50’s.  The nighttime temperatures during these months will generally fall to a few degrees below freezing.

The spring and fall seasons are perhaps the best times of the year to visit Amarillo.  The temperatures are nearly perfect (sitting somewhere in the upper 60’s or lower 70’s), the crowds are thinned down, and the leaves on the trees are either blooming or changing colors with the fall.
