Abilene's climate is fairly mild all year long due to its location in western Texas. During the winter, the city's average temperature is in the low to mid 40's, while in the summer the average is in the mid 80's. The climate in Abilene is also fairly dry, the city getting a little less than 30 inches of rain per year.
Because Abilene is a major business and educational center (it is home to three universities and one of Texas's largest oil cities) visitors come during all months of the year. Its excellent reputation as a medical hub also adds to the number of yearly visitors it receives. However, people wanting to come to the city in order to sight-see or to visit one of its colleges would be best off doing so during the spring or fall months when the weather is at its best.
