Travelers can reach some areas of Kanchanaburi on foot so visitors should plan on doing at least some walking in the area and should pack appropriate footwear for doing so.  However, the city is not so small that walking is the only means necessary for getting around.  Many travelers do find that the city is small enough to navigate with a bicycle, although those people who are not as fit may find the further away attractions to require a bit too much strain for doing so.  Bicycles can be rented at many hotels by those who wish to get around in this manner.

Travelers can rent cars for getting around the area.  For those travelers without children, it is strongly recommended that motorcycles are rented instead of cars.  Streets in Kanchanaburi may be narrow and parking may be hard to come by, so a motorcycle is simply more convenient for internal travel than is a car.  The best place to go for renting a motorcycle is Maenam Khwae road which is home to numerous shops offering rentals.
