The New York State Museum serves as a repository for New York State's artistic, historical, natural and social history.  The splendid building dominates one end of the Empire State Plaza.  Exhibition spaces on the first and fourth floors house a collection that includes a working New York State carousel, the Cohoes Mastadon, Native Peoples galleries, and artifacts from the World Trade Center disaster.  Exhibition space is dedicated to Harlem in the 20's, New York State transportation, Coney Island, gems and minerals, and the State's industry.  Cafe; Gift Shop; Library.

Note to those with kids: Admission to the museum is free, so you won't feel like you have to spend the whole day to get your money's worth.  .
