Getting there is half the fun and it certainly is in Croatia.  The bus terminal located by the ferries in Split is ideal for moving up and down the coast.  Buses are frequent, on time, cheap and comfortable and generally hassle free.  Ferries are the same.  Taxi can feel like a rip-off at 300 kuna.  Croatia Airlines has a bus from the airport to Split for 30 kuna ($6).
