Guatemalan cuisine is a mix of a few cultures, but mostly has Mexican influence (similar to Belizian food) and also some South American food as well. Some of the best dishes you will find our Mexican counterparts like Chicken mole and guacomole. Be sure to try the fresh mango which is exported to the US. Although some guide books may warn about the dangers of eating local fruit (even if it does have a skin), they are overly cautious. Many of the dining options in Antigua are open late on the weekends, but for most be sure to arrive by 9pm. Because antigua is known as one of the richer guatemalan areas, you will find higher-end places then most places in the country. Regardless, the food is still cheap and can, for dinner, be worth the extra money.
