Zagreb is home to a host of events throughout the year, and what is interesting about those events is that, though there are plenty of historical and celebratory events, there are also numerous unique events which one might not expect to find in the area. Many of these cater to specialty interests but can be enjoyed by people who are new to these specialties as well. For example, as anime becomes an increasingly popular art form across the world, fans eyes are turning to Zagreb which hosts the World Festival of Animated Films known as Animafest. Similarly, travelers may not be very familiar with avant-garde music but may find that it doesn’t stop them from celebrating along with locals at the Music Bienniale which celebrates the art form.
In terms of more traditional festivals, the most well-known is the celebration which takes place on November 16th of each year. This is the Day of the City of Zagreb which is recognized by locals and travelers alike through a number of related activities. Another popular annual event is Zagrebfest, a music festival favored by younger visitors but enjoyed by everyone.
