The first place you can change money and get money is the airport when you arrive. There is an ATM on the left just as you leave Customs. ATM's however can only be relied upon the towns and cities, and big resorts.

CREDIT CARD CHARGES
Often times, resorts and restaurants in Fiji will add on a credit card charge (usually around 5%) for guests using credit cards for payments. This is not ethical according to the banks in Fiji. A call to the major banking institutions has resulted in long conversations with the heads of card services, as this occurs more often times than not. They have responded that on everyone's bank statement it clearly indicates that they are in no way, shape or form to pass on their credit card charges to their customers. This can, and will, result in a forfeiture of their card services.

The problem is that most of the culprits doing this are not called on it, or not even aware that they are doing something that is not legal in the country. Or, they try to wrap it around a statement saying "this price is based on a cash discount" which is just another way of saying " you are going to be charged more to use your credit card" which is, again, not acceptible by the banks supplying those credit card services.

Make sure when you do come across someone telling you "that will be a 3% additional charge" to question then. Let them know that you know it isn't legal to do in this country, according to the banking institutions. The banks themselves have said that if you can't get around it,  you can simply wait for your charges to come in, and then refute the additional percentage on your bill. The banks themselves say to do it. Don't pay it - it's just not legal!
