As soon as you arrive to Argentina you find out that, far away from what people think  about South America, Buenos Aires is an amazing city. People you see walking around, and the shopping centres are very similar to the ones you can find in any of the Big Capitals of the World. Many of the inhabitants of B.A. have their roots in the far europe during the 2nd World War. Just the time Argentina was flourishing as a country which has provided of food to the countries in war... Italian, German, dutch, irish are some ot the cultures you find mixed in a strange harmony.  Many foreign friends say that it is  a piece of Europe in South America, as an odd object . Rainy and wet it is enjoyable to anyone. Theatres, Museums and restaurants of all kind make of this city one of the most interesting.

But if you are looking for a destinations for your next vacation you should think about the other face of Argentina, the real roots, the Argentina where the History of Independence embroided the most glorious pages of its History. The fight of warriors who had no more ambition than the freedom of the criollos ( so the spanish born in the territory were called) and the indian descendants. That is the very corner of Argentina, the NW, Salta, Jujuy, Tucuman...

Salta is the biggest province in the NW of Argentina almost 156.000 Sq. Kms large. It has borders with Chile, Bolivia and Paraguay. But also with six other argentinian provinces;  Jujuy, Formosa, Chaco, Santiago del Estero, Tucuman and Catamarca. maybe this is the reason why people make of Salta the Headquarters for  their vacations in the area. And the favorite destinations in the NW  are the Calchaquies Valleys and the Puna and also the Quebada de Humahuaca and the Salt Flats.

The climate?  Salta is one of those destinations  you can come anytime. The climate is one of the best. Even if you hear that is is warm in summer, it has  a pleasant weather. T he fame of warm is because of the east of Salta Province ( Tartagal and Oran)  where the medium temperature in summer is really high. But not in places like Cafayate or Cachi, not even in the Puna or the Salt flats where  the difference between day and night temperature is so wide. January and February could be a little rainy in the city, but not every day.

Cafayate, for instance, is dry and sunny. 347 days of full sun in the area amake of this town in the Calchaquies Valleys the place where the Torrontes wines develope very well due to the sandy soils and the ripeness this kind of grape reaches. Torronte wines is original from La Rioja, Spain, and the first grapes were, probably, brought by the Jesuits. Nowadays, this kind of grape are only grown in this area of the world. There are free-tasting tours in most of the wineries and  most of them make torrontes. To have a swallow of torrontes is like drinking the sunshine. when your lips touch the cool wine you finally find the sense of visiting Cafayate.

So, the real question:  where or when to go? To Salta, anytime. The torrontes wine is expecting to be enjoyed.
