Bukit Brown Cemetery is a 233-hectare green lung which serves as a carbon sink, a natural air-conditioning and rainfall sponge for the whole of Singapore. It is an off-the-beaten track nature enclave, with 90 bird species, 13 of which are already critically endangered, endangered or vulnerable. In addition, it provides a unique window into one aspect of the cultural heritage of Singapore: with 100,000 graves, Bukit Brown is one of the largest Chinese cemeteries outside of China. It is a short bus ride or taxi ride from Orchard Road.
