Istanbul is a great place to visit! The people are very friendly. If you are travelling all girls, you will receive a lof of attention, whether it be someone trying to sell you something or trying to take you out, but dont be afraid, its normal and they are harmless. But if you go with guys, your bargaining power will be limited but you will receive less attention which does get exhausting. Here are some bullets points to keep in mind while travelling there...

  • Its generally safe
  • Take a scarf to enter into the mosque or you will have to use one they lend to everyone at the door
  • wear socks on the date you visit the mosque cause you have to take off your shoes inside
  • Outside of summer, dont go to the princess islands. its cold and there isnt much to do there. they arent that beautiful.
  • If you take the public ferry on the bosphourus course, its much cheaper but the problem is you dont exactly where the europe and asia split is...so consider asking some of the staff on the ferry
  • bargain for everything, unless there is a sign in the store saying they dont bargain..which isnt that normal...even bargain with the travel agents
  • when in doubt, ask your hotel staff....they are generally super helpful
  • dont believe men when they tell you that stuff is closed...probably they are just trying to sell you something...go check for yourself
  • for belly dancing..go to the istanbulin show...its great!
  • people sincerly
  • must sees on a limited time schedule...cistern, blue mosque, bosphours with guide or more explanation
