The best time to visit Halong Bay is from mid March to May or during October and November (cool, dry, sunny weather). June to September period is very hot and subject to rain (mainly short downpours) and few occasional typhoons, but you might get good rate during this low season time. From December to March, it is cold, cloudy and foggy for most days, still some clear sunny days can be expected in between. Be weatherwise as weather decides a good or bad experience in Halong. Which boat to choose
Choose the boat that meets your travel needs and budget. High price and awesome photos are not always the guarantee of quality. Small boats are suitable for small private groups who look for a bit more privacy and often cost more. Big boats have large sundecks for kids to play and offers better view over the bay. As Halong is already overcrowded with boats, sharing the big boat is good for this world heritage site too. Also, it is very important to check the boat age, cabin size, glass window and other emergency facilities...
