Most of the main tourist spots can be reached by the river boats. The River boats can be reached via the Skytrain. So find a hotel close to a Skytrain station or close to river boat landings. The Shangi-La hotel is perfectly situated for both the River Boats and the Skytrain.

Another brilliant way to get around the city is by Tuk Tuk.  These are motorised rickshaws which are popular with both locals and tourists. They are open ended so you are exposed somewhat to the elements.  Prices should always be negotiated before comencing a journey and are normally cheaper than taxis.  They are not the safest of vehicles but are great fun. However in tourist areas such as Patpong tuk tuk drivers often try it on and ask for extortionate prices, maybe 3 times what a metered taxi charges,
