Luanda's climate is mildly tropical. Average temperatures fluctuate little throughout the year. The warmer months are from October through May, when temperatures average between 70 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit (22 to 24 degrees Celsius). The rest of the year, the mercury hovers between 65 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit (18 to 22 degrees Celsius). Rainfall and humidity, however, vary greatly according to the time of year. The rainy season in Luanda extends from October through May. November through February see an average of between 20 to 40 mm of rain (1 to 1.5 inches). March has an average rainfall of about 80 mm (3 in.), and April has an astonishing 120 mm of rain on average (4.7 in.). Conditions during February through April can be extremely uncomfortable. Also during the wet season, infrastructure such as roads can become highly unstable and dangerous.
A much more mild time to visit Luanda is from May through September, when temperatures are warm and rainfall varies from little to none. This is generally considered to be the tourist season in Luanda, and prices may be more expensive during this time. Some tourist attractions, such as the Kissama National Park, are closed during the rainy season.
