When the weather's nice, you try your hand at frisbee golf. There 2 disc golf courses in Ames, both free:
1. Gateway Hills Park (Carroll Marty DGC) in West Ames
A hilly course, with a mix of shots.
From Hwy 30: Take Elwood Dr. north to a left at 1st traffic light (Mortensen Dr.), to a left on Gateway Hills Dr. to park. 1st tee south of sand volleyball courts.
2. Iowa State University (Stable Run DGC)
Off of 13th Street, on the east side of the intersection with Stange Road. Enter large paved area on the north side of 13th and drive to the east side of the lot. 1st tee is through the gate at the bottom of the ramp.

Great walks in the Park
1. Ada Hayden Park
5205 N. Grand Ave
Named after a Ames-born botanist and conservationist (the first woman to earn a Ph.D. from Iowa State University, the park is a great spot for recreation.
3050 Northridge Parkway
You drive through a subdivision on the north end of town, off of Stange Rd. to get to this park with restored prairie, an observation tower, and a beautiful 1.5 miles of paved pathway. There is a small lake, a playground, shelter, and restrooms.
Maintenance Shop (www.m-shop.com)
A classic for live music of all genres at the Memorial Union on Iowa State's campus. Tickets are usually Free-$15.

Coffee & European style cafe, with excellent coffee, sandwiches, soups, with a French touch (try their crepes--sweet or savory), at a great price. They also serve beer, wine, and appetizers, and have live music, often on the fantastic patio.
2424 Lincoln Way (Campustown area)
You cannot beat a lunch or dinner at this Indonesian and Vietnamese place. There are many vegetarian options, as well as excellent chicken, beef, and duck dishes at a great price. Later at night, it becomes an entertainment spot with karaoke, bands, and a great late night menu.
