The weather in Placencia is hot and humid, no matter what time of year it is, so pack only beach and casual clothing. Cools down comfortably at night. Restaurants and hotels in the area are lax about dress, and shorts are acceptable almost anywhere. Explore the beautiful, serene beaches along the Placencia coast, as they are the village’s main tourist attraction. Day starts at like 5AM and sun sets around 6. Restaurants do not serve until 6. Remember to pack your sun block into your checked bag. If you forget, then the pharmacy over Wallen's by the soccer field or the smal store by MM gas and Wendy's (not thered-haired one) both sell sun block at a reasonable price.

The best way to enjoy views of the marine life just offshore is by scuba diving or snorkeling. The Inner and Outer Reefs here (also known as the Lagoon and Barrier Reef) are home to an abundance of wildlife. If you are lucky enough to be in Placencia during the spring, you may even see the shy but friendly whale shark, which comes into the reefs to feed on Cubera snapper eggs. Some businesses that rent water sport equipment even offer snorkeling lessons or tours for the inexperienced.

The Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is another must-see for first-time visitors. This park has the world’s only Jaguar Preserve, though sightings of these animals are not particularly frequent due to their nocturnal habits. There are also ocelots, margays and other large cats in this preserve, however, and tropical birds are always plentiful in any of the forests around Placencia. Night tour was recommended for seeing wildlife. Or take a tent or get a cabin there.

The Cockscomb Basin is a very safe area. If you're into hiking then take a tent and do the 13 miles up to Victoria Peak. Also inner tubes may be rented for $3USD or something. Placencia is very safe as well. Girls are fine to walk alone there at night. At least in the off-season when we visited. Belize City looks more like an inner city. South of San Pedro is definitely scary as well.

The restaurants can be costly. Omar's is not. Wendy's and the Galley are good. But fruit is very good and cheap at the fruit store beside the dry goods store over by Wendy's on the main road near the tip of the Peninsula. The guy who sells fruit from his truck a block back seemed to randomly reprice and be not as cheap.
