Aspen has an impressive public transportation system, considering the city’s small square mileage and icy, mountainous terrain. The Roaring Fork Transit Agency ( RTFA) offers bussing between Aspen and its resorts as well as to other nearby towns and communities. RTFA services Snowmass, where, once there, visitors can shuttle around easily via the village’s own transport system. Finally, the system’s skier shuttle service to the major mountains, such as Buttermilk or Ajax, is free in the winter.
In addition, Aspen provides in-town shuttles geared to tourist shopping needs and dining desires. Hitting mountains, spas, and the airport, the city’s shuttle service effectively helps cut down on congestion and pollution that would otherwise infest the region. Best of all, these shuttle services are free.
Outside of shuttles and the RTFA, Aspen’s carpool program encourages locals to avoid contributing to congestion by sharing rides instead. This initiative, though unlikely to be used by the average Joe Vacationer, represents the city’s commitment to maintaining a clean and vibrant natural environment for residents and guests alike.
