Iowa has long been a heartland for agriculture. Originally home to many Native American tribes, among them the Sauk, Fox, and Iowa, it is now a diverse and growing place. The capitol, and largest city, is Des Moines- home to 200,000 of Iowa's 3 million people.
Visiting Iowa is easy, as the state is bounded by the Mississippi river, and bisected by Interstates 80 and 35. There are many airports, the largest of which is Des Moines International Airport. Bus depots and train stations also dot the countryside.
Home to such famous people as Herbert Hoover, Grant Wood, and Ashton Kutcher, Iowa boasts a number of interesting features: from the bridges of Madison County to the world's best blue cheese (Maytag). Iowa City is home to the University of Iowa, where the famed Writer's Workshop continues to produce some of the best American literature. Historical sites, several noteworthy museums, zoos, a new science center make Iowa a great place to visit or call home.
