Silver Lake on June Lake Loop

This whole area is one of the best places to go trout fishing in California. Ernies Fishing Tackle is the place where you can buy fishing tackle and a Calilfornia Fishing License.

During the winter, June Mountain is great for snow skiing, but Mammoth is still the best for snowboarding.

In the fall, the trees turn amazing colors, pale greens to yellow and sometimes orange. Photographers come here to capture the beautiful colors on Golden June Loop -- around the month of October, give or take a week or two. Every autumn is different, so call the locals to get first hand "fall color" reports.

Fern Lake is a great half day hike on the back side of the loop. Walker Lake is also a nice short hike, or a perfect place for a picnic. One can also go horseback riding either a day trip or for a longer pack trip into the mountains.

One of the fun things to do in the summer is to support the Fire Department Picnic.  This is great for both locals and visitors.

Accommodations are everything from campgrounds, to motels, to cabins, to luxury resorts and homes. The back of the "loop" is where the Hwy 158 wraps itself around a mountain, literally. Waterfalls, creeks, and towering snow cap peaks surround Fern and Silver Lake.

Camping is also a very popular activitiy everything from backpacking the high country, to tent camping to truck trailers to large RVs.
