Many travelers report Krakow is very safe, even late at night. People often go out of their way to be helpful and female travelers tend to be comfortable.

Unfortunately racism can occasionally be a problem for people of African, Asian or Middle Eastern descent. Travellers walking in the streets surrounding Rynek Główny have reported experiencing monkey chants, jeers and being spat towards, even in the daytime. Frequently being stared at whilst walking in the Old Town is also not uncommon.

It is wise to be aware of your belongings, especially wallets, and take care in case of pickpockets who undoubtedly operate in any city.
