Lampedusa is a small location which is best navigated either on foot or on bicycle. The island itself is only 240 square kilometers in size and the inhabited part of the island (where people live) is only approximately one kilometer square. Most of the major beaches are located within one kilometer from this inhabited part, so travelers will find that, once they have reached their hotel destination, they won’t be straying too far away. For longer trips to explore the larger part of the island, bicycle rental should be available at the hotel.
For getting around the surrounding area of the Pelagie Islands , boats are the best bet. Boat tours are commonly used by visitors as a way to see Lampedusa from the outside in as well as for getting around the surrounding area. Ferries are also commonly used by visitors for getting from one location to another. Visitors should head north by boat to see the Capo Grecale lighthouse and the famous Skull Grotto beach area or ferry to Linosa to see the lava rock formations there. While out on the water, keep an eye out for the small wooden boats used by migrants there. See http://idash.org/~nolager/nolager/?q=... for more information.
